Business Overview

J Marlin and Associates Inc. (jmarlinandassociates.com) was founded in January 2016. We are dedicated to helping individuals who are off work suffering from chronic physical and/or mental health difficulties.

We collaborate with disability insurers, employers, and the patients’ health care providers to reduce the duration and frequency of work absences with innovative, cost-efficient treatment and educational solutions that lead to excellent outcomes in a timely fashion.

Our Target Markets

We treat individuals who are off work with chronic conditions such as back pain, headache, fibromyalgia, depressed mood, anxiety, PTSD, etc. When someone goes off work due to injury or illness, the research tells us that the longer they are off, the sicker they become. The original illness or injury may resolve, but for many the decreased level of function, decreased income, and social isolation are significantly disabling.

We provide our services throughout Canada. We have numerous office locations in Ontario and Alberta.

For those individuals who are unable to attend one of these office locations, our services are provided by both telephone and video conferencing using OnCall Health, a secure platform protected by the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and all equivalent personal health information protection legislation throughout Canada.

What Differentiates Us

1.       Return to Work Focus

Studies have shown that even when symptoms of pain, fatigue, depression, and anxiety are reduced, this alone does not return disabled individuals to their normal functioning. We believe that managing a return to work isn’t just about solving medical problems.

At JMA, our collaborative process helps individuals improve their level of function and then successfully return to the workplace. JMA involvement continues until the individual is at full time hours, in order to reduce the probability of relapse.

2.       Evidence Based Treatment

It has been well established that non-medical (behavioural and psychological) factors are the primary determinants of significant absences from work.

At JMA, we use interventions that are behaviourally, not medically, based, and that target improved function. Our strategies encourage “self-management” of chronic or recurrent disorders as well as active coping. If the individual is employed, all efforts are focused on a safe, timely, and sustainable return to work.

3.       Successful Outcomes

Over 70% of those individuals who are treated by JMA are no longer limited by their disability and regain control of their lives, becoming re-involved in family and social activities as well as employment.

How Innovators Alliance Assists Us on Our Innovation Journey

JMA has been a member of Innovators Alliance since May 2017. The decision to join was prompted by a desire to learn from innovative entrepreneurs who have proven to be successful in their own businesses.

I am just starting on this journey and the learning curve is steep. However, with the support and encouragement of all of the chapter members, I have already begun to focus more intensely on the vision and goals for JMA and am looking forward to completing my first Innovation Journey™ in the near future.

My involvement with Innovators Alliance is helping me to stay focused on what matters and I am excited about what the future holds for JMA.
